After the new, great success of Malescorto 2024 - which concluded on October 18 and 19 with the Festival Spin-Off that saw the announcement of the winners of the Special Selection “Territories” (which we report at the bottom of this press release) - the Municipality of Malesco and the Ecomuseo ed Leuzerie e di Scherpelit, organizers of the festival, announce the publication on the website www.malescorto.it of the call for participation in Malescorto 2025.
The 25th edition of the Vigezzo Valley International Short Film Festival-which in previous years had obtained the patronage of the Piedmont Region, Fondazione Comunitaria del VCO Ente Filantropico, Val Grande National Park Authority, Order of Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Conservators of the provinces of Novara and Verbano Cusio Ossola, and Ossola Museums Association-is scheduled from Monday, July 21 to Saturday, July 26, 2025.
Participation in the 2025 competition is, as always, free and open to all, regardless of nationality or residence: filmmakers, production companies, and educational institutions are eligible to submit short films of up to twenty minutes in length for consideration by the committee by January 15, 2025. Works should be reported through the most common video platforms (vimeo, youtubee similar), or through online file sharing services (wetransfer, dropbox and similar) and private ftp protocols.
As always, very rich and varied awards are planned. In addition to the Grand Prize Malescorto 2025, worth €1000, awarded to the director of the best short film overall, the following special prizes are planned:
- “Ossola Museums Association” Award 2025 (€200)
- “Val Grande National Park” Award 2025 (€300).
- Audience Award 2025.
The following prizes will also be awarded as part of Malescorto Spin-Off:
- “MaleSchool” Award 2025 (€300), awarded to the school or those responsible for the production of the best short film made by schools;
- “Malescorto Insubria” Prize 2025 (€200), awarded to the director of the best short film shot, produced or set in the territory of the Insubric Region - which includes the provinces of Verbano-Cusio- Ossola, Novara, Varese, Sondrio, Como, Lecco (except Valle San Martino), Monza and Brianza, Lodi and part of the province of Pavia (Pavese and Lomellina), as well as Canton Ticino, Italian Grisons and the Metropolitan City of Milan.
The prizes will be confirmed at the selection stage by the partners supporting the initiative; additional prizes may also be added after the release of the call for proposals. Also in 2025 it will be within the jury's powers to award any special mentions.
